I would
mention Ebay now (because I get paid to) but unless you have a cheque book, that could prove tricky. But have a wooyay for youth and enthusiasm.

You don't need the latest version.
Second-hand will do - I recently got Photoshop 5 for £45 via eBay. (I then used that as base for upgrade to version 7, which is nice but not essential.)
Or Photoshop Elements has most of what you need and is fairly cheap, or bundled with scanners etc (and thus likely to be available second-hand).
