Even the wiki spoilers don't hit the nail on the head. Anyway, it was something about folding space time as a means of lfaster than light travel. Naturally, this opens a portal to hell. One of the characters demonstrates the physics by folding a piece of paper - representing space time - and poking a pencil through both halves. Give it another few years and the film will achieve cult status.
