That starts off quite well, and then seems to get bogged down in an incessant cycle of knitting and dithering and goes on and on for eternity.

Still, I suppose the clue's in the "wheel of time" title.

The author died with one book left to run, and then his son took it over and managed to spin it out into three.

Then came prequels.

I jacked it in after about 9 or 10 books but the whole lot must be well over 15 volumes by now...

TL;DR They make the Hobbit movies look concise and punchy.

giving up after reading I think the sixth volume where having dragged my way through far too many hundred pages in that volume where I realised that that volume hadn't advanced the story for any of the characters even an inch
