# Yes, you can...
Some educational thingybob for students and teachers.

It'll still cost, though. Does it have to be VB, or would some other - less costly - language/IDE do? Cos there's a few nice Java tools around... Eclipse, for example...

# erm...
Im just starting programming - don't you think javas a bit hard :P

# No, not hard...
It's more wholesome, from an object-oriented-programming point of view. No half-measures, like VB, and nothing too scary like multiple-inheritence in C++.

Oh, and there's jobs in it, too. Which is good, 'cos it pays my mortgage!

# hmm....
so does java make apps as well as applets?
(, Sat 31 May 2003, 20:15, archived)
# Oh yes...
Me, I don't do much application/applet stuff. I mostly do stuff destined to live on a webserver. It's excellent for the cross-platform ability, and decent support for unicode and internationalization.

I know people using my code in hebrew, arabic, chinese... on PCs, UNIX boxes, VAX machines, AS400's... and it all just works.

# PHP mate....
or if you don't know, HTML first.

That's if your doing web.

Otherwise, VB is actualy quite a 'fun' language, not hard at all.

Never lernt java, but might do so I can make Paint for my mobile =P
