yes, that's more south-west...I'm sort of in between Ottawa and Toronto, if you know where those are (I know if someone said to me "I'm between London and Bath" I'd have absolutely no idea). we're just north of new york state.

you could say that, but then every time i've been to the states i've been pleasantly surprised to find my prejudices contradicted by the large number of really nice & sorted americans i've met. their reputation really doesn't do most of them justice.

I used to work in a restaurant and americans never tipped.

I don't deny that nice americans are out there,I just haven't met any =) there are terribly rude people in every country.
