try looking at key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Exploder\Search
my defaults are
hopefully resetting the two keys there will do the trick
edit: and do as the nice people have said and check for spyware :-)

orrrrrI think (think!) tweakui / tweakXP (nice wee tweaking tool) will let you do it through a GUI
