Back when I were a student, ladI knew these blokes who kept 'Nick's Secret Garden' in a shared house. Poor Nick had a suitcase on top of his wardrobe that he never used, so they'd put in a piece of fruit now and again.
They'd invite people into his room and open up the suitcase to show off the latest state of decay. By late May it was fair blossoming, I can tell you.
