# am i right in thinking
that les mis was a bit more nasty before it became a west end musical? it was a book or play or something before wasn't it?

(a bit like Cats was quite a cool book of TSEliot pomes before ALW got his paws on it)

I read the book, and it's like a Satanic bible which describes the poor in such a way to make you cry. I cried myself, but only when Fantine sold her teeth.
