# erm...
OK... I didn't enter myself for a challenge, but rob entered a self-portrait of me that I made and sent to him for a b3ta bash, and I got an honourable mention!

(it's a long story)
(and actually, rob animated the eyes wrong. They flashed alternately, not together.)
(and sometime later, I met rob's girlfriend. She recognised me instantly as the man who rob got out of the cupboard to scare her with.)

# I want a cardboard cutout of me.
I've wanted one for ages. Can you get them made anywhere?
(, Fri 6 Feb 2004, 23:24, archived)
# I made that myself.
1 ) took digital pic on timer.

2) open in photoshop.

3) cut out and abuse as necessary.

4) find something constant on your face you can measure for scale. This was easy for me - I took my glasses off and measured them. You could get someone to measure your eyes from outewr corner to outer corner or something.

5) put image into Freehand / Illustrator / Quark / whatever you have handy, and set guides at the right spacing for your measured thing. Then scale image till it's right. You can do this in Photoshop, but it's a bit painful.

6) print in colour on A3+ printer. A repro shop will be able to do a full-colour A0 and more for you for a few quid if you are happy to put up with a "plotter" output - not photographic quality, but not bad!

7) stick to foamboard (kappa or similar)with Displaymount or Photomount then cut out with sharp blade.

# that's the scariest thing ever
you terrify me :P
(, Fri 6 Feb 2004, 23:24, archived)
# you're just jealous.
actually, it scared the shit out of me once I'd made it. It was a b3ta bash I'd hoped to get to, then couldn't. So I sent myself.

The LED thing was a kit out of Maplin for about £2, adapted with longer leads to the LEDs. The rest was all done with stuff lying about in my office.
