there's a lot of information about optimisation here...lemony.co.uk/optimisation.htm
reducing the number of colours or reducing the dimensions usually works as an easy solution though...
you should probably linky that one for the benefit of the dial-uppers, 500kb is a bit big

scanlinesand optimization; increase the lossy and decrease the colors
it already looks optimized to hell already though... maybe trim a few rows off the sides and top?
