I can`t remember who wrote the book I read ages ago at uni, but it`s all about breaking the site content into small sections using logical grouping, using visual metaphors where possible, making navigation easy, and giving people a reason to come back

hahaahh just remembered - the Gestalt laws of perceptual organisation :)
