# 'spelt' is the americanisation
'spelled' is english

but these days they're pretty much interchangeable

# really?
I always thought it was Americans that love t3h standardization. Hence the irregular "spelt" would be retained by the British. Although come to think of it a lot of archaic features are found in American English, like the word "fall" meaning autumn, or rhotic vowels. I guess spelt could be one of them. *shrugs* I think I still prefer spelt.
