Because they weren't sure if the brush was resting on the windscreen.
If I had reversed, it would have clonked my bonnet. Also, the gutter was a bit mangled up.
It was eventually concluded the brush was just jammed, and the car was very gently pushed out. Everything's fine, otherwise.

I watched a train being washed by a Car wash (but bigger and not for cars. For trains, in fact)
yesterday whilst I waited for the RAC.
