perplexed by the disparity between the british 'asian' (i.e. indo-pakistani descent) and the american 'asian' (oriental). I asked my sister's american flatmate what she would mean if she described someone as 'asian' and she got on a high horse and said she never would because that's labelling someone with something they can't control and that I was a racist for saying anything like it.
I asked her how she'd describe someone's apparent ethnic origin to the police in the event that she got mugged.
Her reply?
'If he robbed me then he's probably black.'
I love my own double standards but I do not respect them in others.

poor dearAsia is a continent therefore constitutes anyone from Turkey (starting at the med) to the top right tip of Russia (pacific/bering sea) hemmed in by the artic ocean north and the Indian ocean south.
