Our family's got a lot in common with the stories he tells on stage, so we find him funny. That won't be the same for everyone :)

Gives him a very wide area to go upon.
Regardless of his lancastrian origins, he remains a rather beloved character in Yorkshire (which you have to admit is the biggest county as well as Lancashire.

Compared to the world's size of course, this may be seem limited in appeal.
