It started half an hour ago and it's already annoying.

Too scared to touch it, lest it cover me in boils

it's the only way to be sure

I really like it. My machine is highly specced, but I wouldn't run it on anything old anyway.

Which is good as I really liked XP. Visually it is stunning. There are some changes to the way you access things, control panel, etc. Behind the scenes changes of course. There are some annoyances with it trying to make life safer, but you can disable this if you know what you're doing and trust yourself (i.e. most people here I would imagine).
So really, I guess I'm saying, it's not worth paying for, but it's a nice operating system which hasn't annoyed me.
BTW I'm running it at work so we get volume keys etc etc from Microsoft. I'm still running XP at home.

i like the way 3.1 looked*, so i don't really care
all i know is my wife's relatively well-specced new laptop can't run it, which seems to me to be thoroughly bent, as an operating system is supposed to help you run other apps, not nick all of your computers processing to render an error window to say that it's done so
*that's probably overstating my case, but, basically, i don't really place a high value on how an OS looks

It's certainly typical Microsoft methods.
I'm running 4Gb of RAM and a decent graphics card so it's OK. But I dread to think what it would be like on a "normal" machine, with say 512Mb or 1Gb RAM.
My work PC is just running normal apps as well - at home I'm running Video Editing and the like so it won't be going on there anytime soon.

i generally leave the look of things the way they are, can't be arsed with changing all the themes, all i care about is that when i hit the go button it goes.

now it's merely inoffensive

to delete what they like from your hard drive is true yeah?

a report to apple from your computer, without your knowledge or instruction, and you have no idea what it sends either. I downloaded a little shareware app that stops it doing it, out of principle.

that's keeping me away
plus the fact i can get legit copies of XP for £50

it could go on for ever
i just think it's funny that most wouldn't bandy the words working class and lower class around
but everyone's happy to shout Chav every five minutes
it's like the new PC term for the great unwashed masses
(, Wed 27 Jun 2007, 14:04, archived)
it's just less likely
it's only people who don't have very much money, that seem to waste it trying to make themselves and their cars look like they've had lots of money spent on them, and failing

They are not a class, they are a social group.
That said, I do dislike the whole working class snobbery associated with chavs.
'He's a good man, provides for his family'
'She was born with a silver spoon in his mouth - daddy's little girl'
And they don't se the idiocy of it.
The working class may kiss my arse, I've got the foreman's job at last.
