Won't work. All they'll need is a single cookie or your IP address to tie you up with the stack of info they have on you. Or I guess a login to b3ta and they can group the whole file together - without your name on it of course. But nonetheless, everything you type on forums emails, whatever you buy, where to surf, how long you spend surfing there, even what typing mistakes you make will all be put together in a file about you. Thankfully the ICO ruled today it would have to be opt-IN.

It's getting a bit more complicated now.

Started off it was banners - we blocked them.
Then flash - and now we have adblockers for that.
Then embedded content in pages - we can block some of that, but not all.
And now it's embedded ads on streaming content - we can't block that.

We'll get content with ads in it, or no content at all. And with things like Google and Phorm we'll get tarteted ads forced down our necks. If you're struggling with your mortgage payments, you'll get bombarded with ocean finance etc everywhere you look.

Yeah, but next time you're in the supermarket, or buying a car, or spending money at all, the decisions you make are in some way influenced by the adverts you've seen.

If they don't get any clicks, it'll discourage them. Same as cold calling and door to door sales, they only operate because some people actually fall for it.
