not that I'm really pretending to understand it myself, but apparently a hypercube is a 4 dimensional cube, impossible to create in 3 dimensions but mathematically theoretically possible in 4, and it sorta looks a bit like that. Maybe.

Now imagine that split into 9 separate mini hypercubes mechanically rotating around the centre of each side and hey presto!
