dub step is basically d'n'b where the beat never kicks in and goes shit crazy
with dub and garage influences. Some of my mates are bang into it but it doesn't really tickle my pickle that much. It's ketamine music really, and i leave my inner horse untranquilized.

it's not that nothing else exisited
it's partly- I think - because production and distribution cost were so high that record companies mostly only put out things for which there was a large enough market. As these costs have reduced, less mainstream stuff have become more available causing fragmentation... all the names and little distinctions are ultimately pretty flakey anyway; if you can't tell the difference between dubstep, UK garage, breakbeat brokenbeats and so on, perhaps there isn't really a difference.
