I was in Greece for the 2004 Olympics, and saw first-hand (and in great detail) how ill-prepared they were. The media made great play of how marvellously the Greeks prepared everything. The media lied through its collective arsehole, as usual.

it's a big pile of horse wank
it's a financial millstone for every city that's ever hosted it
and it's perpetuated by the fat rich cunts that benefit from the massive kickbacks they get off potential host cities
it's disrupting life for many east end families and businesses, and disturbing life in towns where the unwanted have been displaced too
