Could try Macro modeand setting the Aperture Priority manually. Or use Focus Lock, that's what I ended up doing.
Not that I know much about these sorts of things, I'm an engineer, not a photographer.

The brightness of the words on the screen will create blur.Try changing the contrast.

She doesn't have a contrast adjustment......only intensity. Too high and she looks blurry IRL. Too low and it's not visible. I found about the right balance, but my camera just refused to focus properly.

Your camera will see the light more intensely than you will.But if you already played with it then it might just be your lens.
