Aheghurrrghh
Went to see this in Norwich today. It was a great show,
despite the invitation of quite a bit of lung-butter,
The set was a dilapidated theatre stage, with crumbling
proscenium arch and tree growing out of cracked floorboards.
It underlined a definite 'music-hall' quality that weaved
through the performance - Lucky (whose monologue was
stunning) arrives on the end of a rope so long that he's
off stage left before Pozzo arrives holding it.
Simon Callow was amazing, show-stealing as Pozzo, a brash
character with more than a little of the 'Major-General' about him.
When he sat down with some effort, the sound of a twanging ruler rang out.
McKellen & Stewart danced like Max Wall or Morecambe & Wise at times.
The sounds and ambience really captured the comedy and darkness of the
play in equal measure, but as the curtain came down for act I...
A giant fucking billboard! Well, it was a great experience
I'll remember for some time. Seeing some of the greatest
actors in the country with such chemistry doing something
they so enjoy was a real privilege. Hope you don't mind I sharing it.
The money shot

That much talent on one stage should be illegal
Or compulsory, I'm undecided on this one.

I bought them when they first announced it, last year.
I've been waiting bloody ages for it! I thought the tour was starting in London though. At least it gives them a chance to rehearse properly. :)

That's coming to Edinburgh soon
Is it recommended for someone who doesn't actually know much about Waiting for Godot?

Yes!
I watched it once a few years ago, didn't take it in beyond "wtf?"
Read it just before going to see it. It's marvellous.

Imagine you're in some kind of hinterland where time no longer exists.
Then add in people speaking in a bizaare and unrealistic manner.
That's basically theatre for you.

Sadly no.
If you've ever been to one of those films which just feels TOO long, then mutliply that by a million and add in the fact that you can often barely hear what's going on.
I honestly refuse to ever go to the theatre again, whatever it is will have to either publish the script or make a tv play.
