I kinda assumed that 11 frames couldn't produce a file that large...
Any tips on getting The GIMP to produce smaller gifs?

Filters -> Animation -> Optimise (...)
i'm not sure which of the two options is better tbh but someone else'll probs know :)

please read the FAQ about image sizes, your still image is also about 5 times bigger than is generally welcome
save as a jpeg with about 15% compression and you should be ok
