It grinds my gears too.
Edit: oooh, how rude of me, that is a fine image which I like.

Is it just me, or has "Steampunk" turned into "Retro Sci-Fi"?

Steampunk's a tough topic, really
It's strayed less than a lot of them do

This is true.
Although I personally think the "brief" is just a bit too vague (maybe just for me).
Oh, well. I suppose I should be grateful that it hasn't encouraged any movie posters, yet...

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what Steampunk is.
I'm thinking "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"(?)
I was referring to this previous challenge: www.b3ta.com/challenge/retrosciencefiction/ (The 3rd most popular entry has been reposted/re-entered for this challenge).
I've read, and re-read this: "This week's challenge is to celebrate Steampunk and the age of Victorian sci-fi, where airships and steam power exist alongside 19th century versions of more modern developments.", but don't get what it's actually asking for.
As I said, I wasn't directly aiming my comment at you. It's late, and I should be in bed.

nerr didn't take it personally, i was just plaing on the word punk.. but i notice that the main similarites between the retro science fic and this one is the number of at-at in it..
tryed to read the wiki entry.. agree that league of extra gentlemen is stemapunk, and if you every read different engine tha is also steam punk...

I do think that it is a tough compo really
as the vast majority of members here, I would hazard to guess, aren't huge steampunk fans.

I agree.
I've just replied to funkmaster, saying I don't really get it myself.
