# True
It's just one of my Massive Pet Hates whenever I'm in the States.
Having to tip on every drink, or they get really p1ssed off!
I know bar work over there is minimum wage, but what did you do? You poured me a drink - It's your job!
Grrrr....

# They expect tips for everything over there
I suppose that's good if it means prices are lower and so you can choose what you pay depending on how good the service was, but that doesn't really seem to be the case.

# To be fair
they don't seem to have a legally enforced minimum wage. A minimum wage exists technically, but it seems to be a suggestion rather than a requirement. In some states it is legal for waiting and bar staff to be paid on a tips-only basis. Those that do get a wage get a derisory sum substantially lower than that paid to waiting staff in the UK. It's annoying though that the tipping culture has crept in over here, since the socio-economic factors that make it appropriate in America simply don't exist over here.

And restaurant prices are substantially lower over there too. At least, in chain restaurants like Pizza Hut and other shitty places like that. About half the price in some places.

# Come to
France! The service is included, generally of a high standard, and tipping is not at all expected. Oh and the food and wine are generally better value for money, too :)

# Certain professions are exempt from minimum wage laws
we totally enforce our laws over here, more or less.

# they aren't on "minimum wage"
they are on less than normal minimum wage, because service work is "special" because business folk cry "OMG IF WE PAY THEM ENOUGH TO LIVE ON OUR BUSINESSES WILL BE TOO EXPENSIVE OMG", twats.

a lot of them will be on like 2 or 3 dollars an hour

and the tax folks assume that their income is built up to a nominal level with tips, which is just fucktarded.
