I was lucky enough to see an amazing bit of practical in 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World', where Scott goes into the toilet and while he's having a pee, about twenty grips and carpenters built a whole new set outside the toilet door in about 15 seconds. So when Scott emerges out of the bathroom, he's in a totally different place from when he went in.
(I'm sure people asked the director why it was just done with CGI, but I can't remember his answer.)
