This is a normal post Tony Takitani was rather good to me.
I've heard that novel is even better.

Almost all Murakami (Haruki) is excellent. Not only do all of his works pretty much include their own soundtrack to every scene, he really forces you to broaden your horizons in every field with the large amount of references he makes to culture and history as a whole whilst respecting your intelligence enough to not explain things but expecting you to either a) know what he talking about or b) you are capable of finding that out. I have put down his books, gone to read another book and then come afterwards in order to fully understand a scene.

Sorry for literary creaming over here, but Murakami is my second favorite author and the only one whose books have provoked random public transport people to talk to me about literature. Just picked up Kafka on the Shore last weekend, loving it.
