Oh god...
I can only imagine those 3 holes were drilled in to relieve the pressure underneath.
There aren't that many other things I can imagine that would worse than having holes drilled through your finger nails.

You can either drill them or poke a nail with hot steel
but it shouldn't hurt at all.
