Especially because they'd found him a Chinese Auntie and stuff and lived in an area with lots of Chinese. My experience is that a lot of Chinese can tell race very easily, and tell whether people are Han or not, etc. They'd certainly be able to tell if someone was Korean (normally). Just sounds a bit weird.
