Fits in nicely with the narrative that left wing people are unable to engage in discussion and instead resort to violence. No matter how many times someone tries to justify it by referencing austerity or evil tories, what the voting majority see is hooligan behaviour and associate it with left wing politics. The more this happens, the longer Labour will be out of power. Entirely self-defeating.
