The EU has trade restrictions...
...so the reason we trade more with Ireland than, say, China is because we are required to. Open up the market and we will trade how we used to with who we want to and businesses around the world will be able to do the same. In other words proper free trade. That includes European countries whose companies will still want to do business with the UK whether part of the EU or not.
