This is a normal post Wouldnt have made any differance in my case Long post
On a mountain bike going down a 1 in 4 hill when the front wheel droped into pot hole on the uphill side of a drain, unfortunatly i was looking over my right shoulder. as there was a car accelerating to overtake me, the moment i looked forward, the wheel dropped in and i was launched over the bars and diagonaly into the center of the road, right where the car was overtaking me.

I clearly recall the moment the wheel dropped and getting ejected from the bike, the car was closing rapidly with the spot of road i was due to impact and, me car and raod all met in one untidy heap that left me wrapped around the front right of a VW Golf my head was between the road and the tyre and if the guy hadnt stopped as fast as he did it would have gone over my noggin.
as i hit the road my legs splayed out and my left leg was completly unhurt but my right leg was under the car and sticking up between the engine and radiator with my right angle dislocated by 90degrees.
The forward moment of the car ground the side of my ankel off and broke the talus in three pieces, i also ended up with a broken knuckle on my left hand and some damage to the elbow aswell. There was also adecent hand shaped bruise on the left of my head where my hand had been as it hit the road.

Looking back on it from the comfort of my wheelchair and lack of pain meds, i hold no bad feelings for the car driver, after all it wasnt his fault at all, He even trav eled up from London a few times to check on me in hospital. Decent guy like that.
when you see ambulances these days at an accidnt it is slow slow slow protect the patient etc. that day? sone as they heard the screech and bang the locals where out with pillows and blankets and one old lady sat next to me and held my hand, thank you, i never found out who she was but thank you, funnily enough there was no pain at all, due to shock and being 21 and thinking ah this isnt to bad i will be back at work in a couple of months. Ha little did i know.
One thing that distick in my mind was the urge for pizza, i know i know but pizzaa? also there was a total lack of blood, none at all despite a huge hole in my ankle, that looked like a bone in joint of pork.
Any way the ambulance guys simple looked me over then put me on the stretcher no neck collor or any thing like that, off to hospital and into a cubicle. Once in side, i had a big fat round Idian Dr with a turban and round fat face with tiny round gold rimmed glasses, now i can only recall a few words of what he was saying due to accent and laughing gas but those words where "this may hurt a bit" he then proceded to grab my right foot and pull, very very hard at that point the pressure that was on my ankle and was stpping the bleeding was removed, the pain felt like a lightning bolt to the nuts and and i passed out, when i came round the Dr was standing there looking worried, with his hand over the hole and blood ouzing out between his fingers, but even more impressive was decent sized splash ofblood on the cubicle wall running down to a puddle on the floor. After that it was op after op after op.
In the ten years it took to get back to work, i was in plaster for just over 4 years in total had crutches for 7 and had a walking stick for the days that i could manage them. in total there was 7 operations and unfortunatly none of them worked as they should have, his led to more and more complications and recuring infections due to road debris in the ankle spaces, and due to necrosis of the bone.
Now though the painkillers have been stopped appart from one tramadol in the morning morning tramadol, all the morphine is done with i have very little pain unless the stump gets cold, and i have now got my head back to a safer more stable place.

All this is thanks to my wife staying with me,and being the anchor i needed
Mrs Bunnykiller i couldnt have done this journey with out you
