This, in part, reminds me of another moment in my own life.
When the hospital sent in a priest after my step son had passed from cancer. We are not religious, and told them so, but we "afflicted" by the good intentions of others. The Priest stated 'he's gone to a better place' - our feeling was that the best place was here with us now. The holy man was lucky to leave with his own life...

In your situation, I'm pretty certain he'd have been given about 10 seconds head start before I went at him with whatever came to hand (I.E. the Bible he had on him/various pieces of furniture/his own torn off limbs). This sad's me off no end. Religious cnuts!
