No worse than a beauty pageant then?
If fact I would go so far is it's better than a pageant as this at least has some positive aspects.
Maybe some are but those two girls seemed to enjoy it and you don't get to be good at something without your heart being in it.

i have the same feeling towards child beauty pagents, but that is a rant for another day.
i would venture to guess if given the choice both of those girls would rather be doing something else, money is the driving factor here. the one says it herself.

At 8 years old i was being forced to learn a lot of instruments by my parents.
I was very good at them but my heart wasn't in it, mainly because i was 8 years old and wanted to be out playing with my friends instead of being forced to practice for 3 hours each evening, i did so for my parents though and pretended i enjoyed it if anyone asked.
Also, at 8 years old you shouldn't have the responsibility of being a bread earner for a family, especially not through violence.
