This is a normal post It would be nice if someone could wave a wand and remove all the guns
Not just for the U.S but eastern Europe, Mexico,Pakistan and anywhere else that has a problem with armed citizens being violent.

However I was thinking that the means needed to achieve this against the will of the population would risk civil war in the U.S and certainly in Pakistan.
Best you can do is try and remove the people's fear and desire to be armed.
It'll take years, if not decades.

This is a normal post You may be right. Erase the need to defend, and you erase the tools to defend.
Unfortunately, US case law has held that police have no duty to protect, only to investigate. And with some of the abuses the police have been accused of, I'm not everyone would want to put their trust exclusively there either.
