They know what they're doing.
Any publicity is good publicity as far as that paper is concerned.
Edit: Supposedly on the article about that FPS guy they posted a bunch of pictures that weren't even him to accompany the article, add to that the spelling mistakes in every article and it sums them up pretty well, sloppy at best.

A friend of mine worked for the Daily Mail for several months on the diary column
Said that they were, for the most part, genuinely clever, interesting and nice people, who saw themselves as having a really shitty (but well-remunerated) job.
One can talk about ethics and having the balls and the principles to just walk out...I'd like to think I would.
