This is a normal post Hitler is just unpopular to talk about, especially if you are in government and have the potential to offend anyone.
It is true that the Socialists and the National Socialists in Germany considered joining forces, but whereas the Socialist envisioned a worldwide movement, the National Socialists were very much only for Germany. That was the sticking point.

As proven out over the years, the Russian Socialists and the German National Socialists ended up very nationalistic and employed many of the same tactics with regard to detractors, dissent and maintaining control.
