I think the signs were originally for the benefit of emergency services.
So that they knew to keep looking for bodies in a pile-up.
Which is why it's even more annoying to see them when there is clearly no 'baby on board'.
As for 'babe on board' - these seem to be available for sale only to absolute munters.
