There was something I saw that I'd consider.
You can get high strength - rare earth magnets implanted near your finger tip, which is supposed to vibrate around magnetic/electrical fields basically giving you an extra, rudimentary sense.

they find something particularly attractive it really hurts and then skin splits

They're coated in silicone, and they don't rip your skin.
At least from what I've read in blogs by people who have them.
