There was a good anecdote about two people who were trying to assertain how a bit of furniture got damaged during delivery. The guy who delivered it happened to be black.
Shop Owner: So can you describe the guy who delivered it?
Customer: Well, urm ... he was driving a Mercedes
Show Owner: Yes, but the man himself, what was he like?
Customer: Well he was urmm ...
Shop Owner: Was he *vague hand wave gesture to face*
Customer: Ahh yes he was *vague hand wave gesture to face*
Neither side could bring themselves to describe the guy as 'black'. For fucks sake, what is the world coming to. It took a black sociologist to tell people that people shouldn't be afraid of discussing race and even being proud of the culture and history of 'white' people.
Just think, anyone who suggested celebrating white culture in schools would be hounded out as a complete racist, but in some left wing London boroughs it used to be almost mandatory to celebrate black culture in school.
And I bet you another thing, some of the people reading this will acuse me of being a racist just because I've made an explicit mention of 'white culture'.
And on that note I'm off to the NottingHill Carnival this weekend.

actually, i agreeit would help to stop racial discrimination if blacks, asians, etc werent all given preferencial treatment. as long as they are getting summat that "white folk" aint, there will be retaliation and abuse.

But isn't it a sad ...That I still felt the need to add 'even' to "even being proud of the culture and history of 'white' people" and you felt that you needed to mention your ethnic origins to get the point across that you're not being racist.
