# yay
lets ban the 11th of September. Don't you find it abhorrent that something so huge is distilled down into a name like '9/11' which is now so conveniently applicable as a blanket justification for international terrorism in the other direction?
And so few people have the nerve to question it? It's no different to Hitler's Final Solution. Flood the media with one opinion and cast all other viewpoints or objective appraisal as traitorous and therefore 'legitimately' punishable.
Now That's frightening. There are 6 billion people on this planet. Most of whom are at the beck and call of the American economy.

# well
i happen to be american, and im not some clone as the heavily censored european media would have their constituents believe. christ, the UK doesnt even CARE what their ppl think/want, let alone ASKING them! (see the house of lords, chortle). i happen to bo against the pending iraqi fiasco. i am fully supportive of finding any and all actors, instigators and sympathizers of the attack on my country, bending their collective asses over, and savagely assfucking them. however, since ive seen no proof of husseins involvement, i cannot support even a glance in his direction (at least until such a connection can be proved to me). however, as we all know, NONE OF US are responsible ultimately for what out governments do. all i can do (and thank god i can) is vote, and trust my judgement and the word of those i place in office. once there, its out of my hands if they go bonkers. (i didnt vote for bush, btw, but i DO support his defense of us in GENERAL. just not the blanket wiping out of all dodgy characters (which hussein certainly is). im not a fan of police actions anyway. the last "legal" war the us fought was WW2.
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:18, archived)
# I haven't seen any proof
of afghani involvement (or Saudi - bin laden being Saudi)
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:27, archived)
# well now...
ur just flat determined to not let us fight back, arent u there, sourpuss? i get the feeling ppl like u would like to lean back in ur chairs, smile smugly, and have us tuck tail and chalk it up to an unfortunate event, best forgotten. thats generally the attitude of one who giggles when bad things happen to others, coz it makes them feel better about their inferior position. afterall, if were all losers, ur not alone, right?
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:31, archived)
# I haven't giggled about it.
and I'm not against you fighting back. I just don't see how anything was actually achieved by the manner in which it happened. I don't think it was intelligently done, I only saw gung-ho savagery to appease the immediate need of the American public (at large) to feel some kind of retribution took place.
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:37, archived)
# You can't support the killing (or assfucking) of sympathisers
and then talk about censorship. Active participants deserve punishments in any crime, but opinions are not punishable. That's one of the key points of freedom of speech. If you want to punish sympathisers then maybe you should just go around beating up (or assfucking) everyone who disagrees with you. Opinions are a wonderful thing. Lets try and keep a society where people can legally have them.
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:33, archived)
# indeed
sympathizers should have read "accomodators". what i meant to infer was those who may not have actively participated, but allowed activities to take place, such as allowing training grounds on their soil, etc.

my bad.

btw i mentioned censorship after u implied we americans were all braindead sheep, happily chewing the cud of rehashed media blurbs, which i most certainly am not
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:36, archived)
# ok, fair point.
Essentially I have the luxury of being objective in this case as while I felt the same shock as everyone here did at the time, I wasn't directly affected emotionally. I felt no sense of loss. I just think that what's happening on the back of it is utterly fucked up when, if what we are told is true, Al-Qaeda is a 'relatively' small organisation, however powerful. It wasn't an attack on the US by Afghanistan, the difficulty is that its an unseen and subversive enemy, which ought to imply that an overt retaliation against a people conveniently labelled by the name of their country is wrong.
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:42, archived)
# i agree
about afghanistan. it sucks ass. in fairness, we have TRIED to not kill innocents, but we have. its unforgiveable in my opinion. but i just cant see what else to do but aim for where we believe the kingpin to be and try to snuff him out. had i been around during `Nam, i would have fled to canada if id been drafted. am i a coward? not really. but unlike ww2 when we were gragged in by an attack by japan and the duty to help our allies, england and france, vietnam was a police action. u see, its a double edged sword tho. i can hate the motives and still support our boys. THEY didnt know this would happen. THEY are most likely of a patriotic bend to begin with, and probably believe they are fighting for God and country. i can begrudge them that, i can even love them for it, even if i dont have the heart to tell them its basically a big fucking waste.

War is Hell.
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:48, archived)
# I'm not saying Americans are all sheep
I'm saying that many people in the states do not have the luxury of hearing other viewpoints and the other side of the story. I know a few Brits in the states, who've been there for various lengths of time. Generally, they cannot believe how much the majority of people around them are uninformed. One pays extra to get BBC News on cable just to get international news. He's been there like 12 years and has watched international news coverage dwindle markedly on the usual channels. It takes effort on anyone's part to get the whole picture, it just appears to me to be harder in the states than it is here to do so. Which is worrying when there's so much power being overtly wielded by the administration.
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:51, archived)
# ok then
well im gonna get some grub, but a few final thots from me:
there ARE known, established terrorist organizations on this planet. lets all hope that all nations will help to root them out. remember, it could be westminster abbey next time, and u better believe the american public will be supportive of you. killing ppl in the name of God or Allah would be laughable were it not so real. its like the nutbags in ireland. "my slightly different version of christianity is better than yours, and to prove it, im going to bomb ur kids school". all terrorists belong in a rubber room someplace.

i also hope the US govmnt learned from `Nam and wont push it till were forced to take to the streets to stop it after 20 years and 60000 dead kids coming home in bags.

finally, a quote from a television commercial put out by my local police department:

"They'll call you every name in the book, 'till they call you for help."

# i'd just like to say
that the (british) people of the board do tend to be quite anti-american (and anti-theist (not the same as atheist, no)- oops, this is a seperate bitch that just found its way in here) and it annoys me too. though i am totally opposed to most of the us involvement in the middle east, i wouldn't pick on random citizens and accuse them of being responsible for us bombings in iraq or afghanistan. why can't we all play nicely and stuff?
(, Sat 7 Sep 2002, 16:38, archived)
# I'm not Anti-Americans
I'm not even anti-America, I'm anti-Bush. Unfortunately there appears to be a certain amount of Bush-led propaganda in the US that colours the opinions of some.

# nobody takes the event lightly
What's really sickening is the abusive and cynical manner in which the American government has used it to further their own fascist and imperialist mandate. which happens to involve an awfully large financial gain for a handful of bosum buddies at the top of the corporate ladder. And the incredible amount of propaganda that has been thrown out off the back of it... which is lapped up by the American public who need someone to blame and don't get fed the whole story due to mass censorship of international reporting.

Whoever was responsible in the first instance.
