I have spoken to several americans who have never heard of the beatles.
Nearly EVERY American I have spoken to thinks Scotland is part of England.

It's hardly central
to the average American's life to know the geographical complexities of the British Isles.
Besides, it has been 34 years since the Beatles were actually a band (not counting the stuff recorded a few years ago without Lennon) and it's debatable whether Paul McCartney's solo career warrants worldwide fame.
