Another paradox of perception
and one which I think is a bit dense.
The problem is the definition of 'sound', and not whether the tree produces shock waves which, upon striking the eardrum, would be interpreted as 'noise' by the brain.
...so the answer to this question involves more of Mr. Webster's opinion than physics.
