That's exactlywhat cats do all the time!
Perhaps you have solved one of the mysteries of the ages: cats aren't trying just to be annoying, and they're not stupid, they just stand in the doorway because they're claustrophobic and agoraphobic (I had to use word to figure out how to spell those).
