# I loved them,
but they do need to be well maintained.

# they wern't when I got my mitts on one
I was brused and in pain for days afterwards, the thing jammed on every other shot, and I quit the cadet core....all on the same day!

spent the rest of my time tinkering with cars and pretending it was army related.

# Jamming (in a proper SA80 anyway)
Is usually caused by fucked magazines (I bought some colts and only ever put 28 rounds in them) and by poorly maintained gas parts.

# nah, they were over used, underkept shitty things
I'm more used to delicate sport rifles, so actully having to do stuff to cock it wasn't much to my liking.

# What sortr of rifle do you use where you don't have to cock it?
I used to do a bit of .22 and .303 range stuff when I was a boy, and a bolt is just part of shooting.

(I only have shotguns now, I am too old and fat for strapping myself to a gun any more)

# well you do have to cock it, obviously
but it's not quite as violent is it. I'm talking about the same things as you are.
