If that's the rifle I think it is.
Then those are so fun, but fucking annoying when the cunt next to you is firing blanks right past your ear and ends up getting his/her rifle jammed 'cause they can't pull the handle right back.

Hmm.
It's an SA80 and, if they are firing blanks, they should have a BFA (Blank Firing Attachment) on the front (a big yellow thing which forces the gasses back into the chamber).
Whilst poorly maintained SA80s do jam, it would only be necessary to cock it before the first shot as it is, generally, a semi-automatic weapon (It has an automatic setting, but it is only really used for trench clearing).
This seems to have a strange addition to the cocking handle, the sights and the end of the barrel - maybe it has a .22 conversion or something?

If you're under 18 you're not allowed to use automatics.
/Cadets for 6-8 months. I got sick of them.

I also know that the cadets at golden hillock has a number missing on the diagram of said gun.
Whilst the others were going over the basics of map reading. I was looking for spelling errors in things.

Actually my pedantic friend
;)
It's a CGP ( cadet general purpose ) L98A1
( single shot conversion for cadet use )
It requires cocking for each shot and the handle extension is there to help small hands achieve this. They never have a flash supressor either.

the best shirt I ever owned was a RL - grey and light blue vertical striped
it lasted years and years without fading or looking scabby at all. I gave it to my dad about 4 years ago and found out he still wears it. That's a total of 7 years wear from one shirt... not bad at all.

BFAs are not flash suppressors,
They do serve in that capacity, but they actually exist because, without a projectile, there is not enough gas pressure to re-cock the weapon, so they force the gas into the cylinder.
Clearly, if Cadets have single shot weapons then this is pointless.
[EDIT: Just read the Wiki article and they are talking about what we called flash eliminators, which makes my post utterly irrelevant. Please ignore me.]

I know this but
I was talking of the muzzle flash supressor (which as you know is nato standard in the field ), not the yellow BFA.

Not at all.
What is the source? Why do they have enormous cocking handles and white paint on their SA80s?

There's no apostrophe in the word "your",
so that is not a good retort to my question.

No idea of the name.
But if it's the rifle I think it is... then the cocking handle is 'cause it's not automatic, and the white paint is so they can be shot at by the enemy?

I can't believe I know this
but it's because it's the "kiddie-friendly" Cadet GP rifle, not the SA80.

Ah!
It is the one where there is a sleeve to take it down from 5.56 to .22?

they wern't when I got my mitts on one
I was brused and in pain for days afterwards, the thing jammed on every other shot, and I quit the cadet core....all on the same day!
spent the rest of my time tinkering with cars and pretending it was army related.

Jamming (in a proper SA80 anyway)
Is usually caused by fucked magazines (I bought some colts and only ever put 28 rounds in them) and by poorly maintained gas parts.

nah, they were over used, underkept shitty things
I'm more used to delicate sport rifles, so actully having to do stuff to cock it wasn't much to my liking.

What sortr of rifle do you use where you don't have to cock it?
I used to do a bit of .22 and .303 range stuff when I was a boy, and a bolt is just part of shooting.
(I only have shotguns now, I am too old and fat for strapping myself to a gun any more)

well you do have to cock it, obviously
but it's not quite as violent is it. I'm talking about the same things as you are.

Arctic camouflage.
And big handles so you can use them while wearing arctic mittens.
Obviously.
