I have frequently cut mine on my own mandibular teeth* while entertaining a lady.**
*not trying to be posh there, but 'bottom' and 'lower' both seemed open to misinterpretation

I could thread some kind of study yet flexible plastic plate
onto the piercing, thereby separating and mutually protecting teeth and tongue.

I still have my tongue piercing but had to remove my labret for my job.
a lingual frenulum could be a nice additional not-too-obvious one.
Are you a proper piercer with like and shop and stuff, or do you have a cork, a candle and a saftey pin?
