I played around with the Vanishing Point thingy but ended up with something that would have confused Escher himself. I'll look again I think... plus there's a vague possibility that I'm going to have After Effects soon. Now I've seen your pic I'm quite looking forward to it.

Vanishing Point is a wild beastie at timestook me some hours to get the grid just right for that fly through. It's also a pain when importing into AE as it can be way off camera and hard to bring back into the scene but a tip is to create another grid plane in Vanishing Point that's square on to the camera - AE will throw up a error prompt when importing but you can ignore that and it will look good in AE.
