Agreed
It reminds me of something I've seen before.
I guess horror is a very over-saturated genre, being that there's only so many ways to scare people.

I don't know.
It seems that a lot of the generics are using the easy scares and jumps. It takes a good film to dig right into your brain and really put the willies up you. I haven't come across a lot, but the ones that do it, do it really well. I think there are still ways to scare people beyond creepy shadow ghost is running fast towards you / suddenly appearing behind you.

I'm no connoisseur of horror I must admit
The only horror film I hold up as a masterpiece is The Shining, but it seems to be one most horror aficionados that I know don't. I find performances like Jack Nicholson's a lot more frightening than jumpy bits and gore.

I agree with you,
The Shining is awesome. Creepy film that stands time well. I like a lot of the older horrors. They didn't have the CGI capabilities like they do now so a lot more thought had to go into them I think. The Changeling wheelchair moment is a good example of this www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3GdPWzKfiE
