This is a normal post you're one of those people who film videos in portrait, aren't you?
*points at you*

This is a normal post If you look at this particular video, I think the use of portrait was a good decision

This is a normal post BULLSHIT
All that extra 'vertical resolution' is wasted because it is scaled down to fit into a viewable window on a computer screen.
You are simply left with dead screen space to the left and right for no reason.

Vertical videos are only 'OK' if they're watched on a phone or handheld device, where you can actually hold the screen vertically and you make the most of those screens' limited resolution.

I'll still silently judge the person though.

This is a normal post Instead of getting mad, you should write a program that fills that dead space with advertising.
It's the American way!

This is a normal post You know how I blame for this horrible trend?
The video ads on the escalators in tube stations.

This is a normal post I tried doing it the American way
Now I have a monitor full of bullet holes. I'm going to try and use 'Stand your ground' to claim on the warranty.

This is a normal post it's a fault of youtube not supporting this format, not the filmer
sylistically it's the best decision when the action is happening along a verical access, with little of interest on the horizontal margins (ie walls). just becuase one platfoms doesn't support this, why should it limit the videographer

This is a normal post Because it is stupid and this argument is stupid.
All childishness asside, it just feels wrong having such a cropped, tunnel-visioned view.
We take in the world with our eyes with more horizontal peripheral vision than vertical.

This is a normal post I agree with Ms May
The action lends itself to portrait.
